Fall is here again and we are amazed again! Doesn’t it seem more amazing that we can be so blown away by the same set of natural colors draping the hills and valleys? Not really! Obviously the attraction of the natural beauty is so astounding that we count ourselves fortunate for being here, while at the same time quietly (or not so) cursing the other people here for the same reasons. The reality is that nature’s beauty brings a lot of money into the region.
Local White Mountain Insight
As a real estate broker, with Keller Williams Lakes and Mtns Real Estate in North Conway NH, I am working a real estate market that spans an area with an approx 30 mile radius of the North Conway office, in both NH and Maine. A broad range of properties exist in the White Mtns, each with their own appeal that fit within the scope of the rural area, located so close to multiple major metropolitan centers.
We have resort epicenters and regional commercial hubs within this market area, and intersecting highways from the Sebago Lake region to my East to the Rt 93 corridor to my West, and The Presidential Mountain Range creating a formidable wall to my North. The fertile areas in between and just South of “The Conways” have appealed to people from all over New England and the World for so many different reasons, not the least of which is the desire to escape. Escaping the machinations of the industrialized world by driving just about 2 hours North from “the city” appeals to a large percentage of the millions and millions of people living in the urban – suburban Northeast. How could it not? The romantic appeal of a simpler life and a wild frontier need not take the form of an Alaskan odyssey when so much “Wilderness” can be taken in weekly, monthly, or even annual doses!
In the foliage season I like to reflect on “why” so many of us come here and find peace. If you get a chance, take a drive up and just take a few deep breathes. Thank you.
